Abstract
Abstract: RNA extracted by phenol/SDS treatment of influenza C/Ann Arbor/1/50 virions is ribonuclease-sensitive, has a sedimentation coefficient of about 18 S, and can be resolved by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis into at least five species of molecular weights 1.24 × 106, 1.08 × 106, 0.92 × 106, 0.58 × 106 and 0.33 × 106, respectively. This extends information about the known structural similarities between influenza C and prototype orthomyxoviruses, and contrasts with the biological uniqueness of influenza C virus receptor specificity.
